9/8-9/12

You all have gotten started to a great week! In Georgia Studies, we will continue to work on learning more about our state's regions and wonders. We will take more virtual field trips and discover what makes Georgia one of the best places in the world! We'll be practicing how to take good notes using our textbook and other resources to strengthen our study skills. Soon we'll be participating in a webquest to further examine what we've learned about Georgia! You can take a peek at the webquest at http://www.crabapplelane.org/Georgia%20Regional%20Habitats1/Georgia%20Habitat%20WebQuest.htm.
Additionally, in English Language Arts, we will continue looking at the clements of narrative writing and literature. This week we'll introduce the PLOT DIAGRAM to help us organize the new vocabulary: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution (denoument) of the story we'll begin reading, "The Bully" by Paul Langan. Most of you are already enjoying this book. Keep reading and practice the reading strategies on the flipbook we created. AR testing has been postponed due to technology upgrades, so take good notes on any AR books you'll be testing on later. Testing should resume September 30th.
Keep practicing your writing at home and in class. Many students are finding that typing their papers at home and taking advantage of the spell checker in Word has helped them produce better writing. If you need any guidance on saving documents or borrowing discs for storage, please see me.
Parents, we'll be making more contacts this week to discuss progress reports. Remember each student receives a weekly progress report for grades that goes home on Mondays. Please call me or email us if you want to schedule a conference or check in with us on your child's progress. Some students have shared with us that their parents are using our blog to work with them. We were happy to learn this. You can comment to blogs or send emails if you have any questions or comments you would like to share!
Have a good week! Root for your home team on Sept 10th for their first football game...come out and attend the game if you can! Congratulations to the Soccer Team on their victory!! Go FALCONS!!
