August 26

Today's agenda and the remainder of the week activities/focus include continued review of Georgia's location and physical regions. Included are a review of the vocabulary; latitude, longitude, prime meridian, equator, hemisphere, geography, names of the 5 regions, continent, nation, region, Southeastern US states, etc. Review of GA's 159 counties and "Where am I?" homework activity .

Students will view ppt and online webquests on the Internet. Students will read in their textbook about the physical regions of Georgia. Students will distinguish between each by listing unique facts of each on a booklet.

In ELA, students will review parts of speech and in particular, NOUNS. Students will read aloud from "The Blanket" and will review LITERARY ELEMENTS using graphic organizers and reading strategies. Some online resources that may be of interest are:
www.readwritethink.org. Click on STUDENT MATERIALS. You will find a wealth of information there. Additionally, www.literacyrules.com. You will find numerous literature and writing resources. Hopefully, we'll find time to review these together over the next couple of weeks.

The Georgia Performance Standards that align with our lessons are:
GA STUDIES: SS8G1 and SS8E1
ELA: ELA8R1; ELA8RC1; ELA8RC2

To learn more about the Georgia Performance Standards, they can be found at http://www.georgiastandards.org/ that show all the expectations for 8th graders in our state. We will list them here on our blog for each lesson(s) for that week.

Please email me if you have questions.
Ms. Holden
