Review SS8G1a- Students explain Georgia’s location by drawing 4 pictures or making 4 complete sentences in relation to region, nation, continent, and hemispheres.

GA’s location, The Five Regions of Georgia, GPS posted in the class, Key Vocabulary: prime meridian, equator, hemisphere, continent, region, SE regional US, geography, latitude, longitude, degrees, minutes, and other words posted on WORD WALL-pictorial depictions of Vocabulary and/or maps.
(9:00-9:30) Work Session: Students create a booklet on Appalachian Plateau while viewing a ppt and online webquest. Students read aloud or with a partner from their textbook about this region. Students list at least three facts that are unique to this area. Students complete their booklet with a summary paragraph and picture of the area that they draw.
(9:30-9:40)Closing/Summarizer/Word Wall/Post work/Sum up class pts- ADD/DELETE words on WORD WALL with new vocabulary-CREATE a "Picture Postcard" if time allows.
HOMEWORK- WHERE AM I? ACTIVITY –using labeled GA COUNTIES map tell the names of some using clues given about them. Consider weather warnings that may include other “nearby” counties when viewing map and list our neighboring counties to MUSCOGEE.

Students complete the Diagnostic Preview (pretest) on pg 24 in their Holt Grammar Handbook. This will be graded for participation.
Class review of mneumonic IVANCAPP for Parts of Speech.
Class T charts COMMON and PROPER NOUNS on board. RELAY TO BOARD
(9:55-10:15) (11:10-11:30) Writer’s Workshop/author’s chair
Students write a paragraph using the list of nouns that they created on the board.
(10:15-10: 35)Rapid Review-Topics = “I SPY” with posted vocabulary on WORD WALL and GPS. Reading strategies, writing process, literary elements, subject/predication/sentence fragments, etc.
(10:35-10:55) Work Session (literature/reading): Students review their weekly spelling words and begin to prepare for SPELLING/VOCABULARY test on Friday. Students will practice reading strategies while reading “The Blanket”. Students will complete accompanying activities associated with story; Column charts for words/parts of speech, etc.
Students work filling in the graphic organizers, i.e. STORY MAP, PLOT DIAGRAM, etc to review ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE
