February 2-6, 2009

Hi, Students! Please find below our agenda for this week. We'll continue to start each class with a CRCT practice question to practice our test taking strategies. You will be asked to take home permission forms to view a video on Friday about the Civil War. You'll not be allowed to view this if you do not return this form. Those activities not finished in class will be . Saturday school will be available soon. Check with your teachers.

Monday assigned for homework each day. Please keep taking advantage of afterschool tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays

GA Studies: Look at contextual vocabulary found in Chapter 8. Begin our Guided Reading and class discussions about the Civil War. Take home permission forms to watch GLORY on Friday.

ELA
Grammar Review-Verbs. Students will complete activities from their Holt Grammar textbooks in class together. Students will complete independent practice in class or for homework. Students will practice reading aloud from AR books the last ten minutes of class.

Tuesday
GA Studies-Continue Guided Reading. Watch video on Civil War. Take notes during video and write summary of what you viewed.

ELA
Grammar Review-Regular vs. Irregular Verbs. Students will compare/contrast "regular" verbs with "irregular" verbs by defining each and finding examples from their textbooks. Students will complete activities from their Holt Grammar textbooks in class and for homework. Students will practice reading aloud from AR books the last ten minutes of class.

Wednesday

GA Studies-Complete activity, 'Which Side" and discuss similarities and differences of the Union States versus the Confederate States. Continue reading and exploring contextual vocabulary.

ELA
Students will review "Irregular Verbs" in their textbook and online at http://www.chompchomp.com/. Students will complete an interactive review activity together in class. Students will practice reading aloud from their AR books for the last ten minutes of class.

Thursday
GA Studies-Continue Guided Reading in Chapter 8. Complete "A Letter Home Activity" and discuss these in class.

ELA
Students will define vocabulary from a short story in their Literature Textbooks using a graphic organizer of their choice. Students will practice reading aloud and discuss the elements of the story.

Friday
GA Studies-
Students will watch "GLORY" and complete an accompanying comprehension sheet about the movie.

ELA
Students will continue to read from their Literature Textbooks. Students will work in collaborative pairs as "VERB COLLECTORS" and collect both "irregular" and "regular" verbs from the story that was read on a TCHART.
